Richard Lyle Cooper, 64, of Edna, Kansas passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at CRMC. Richard was born on December 20, 1952 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Stanley and Charlotte (Lozier) Cooper. He graduated high school at Altamont, Kansas and was very active in the wrestling club. Richard went on to receive his diesel mechanic degree from Okmulgee Tech and actively participated on the VICA team as an officer. On March 9, 1974 he was united in marriage to Jo Florer in Decatur, Arkansas. Of that union three daughters were born. The couple later divorced. While living in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Richard worked as a diesel mechanic for Wonder Bread. When he made his home in South East Kansas he began working for UPS as a driver for 34 years until his retirement. In his younger years he played softball and volunteered as a referee/umpire for local youth sports. He has always enjoyed participating in the Labette County Fair, fishing, farming and raising cattle, taking care of his chickens and attending all the activities his grandchildren were involved in. He loved the time he spent surrounded by his family and friends. Surviving to honor his memory are his parents, Stanley and Charlotte Cooper; daughters, Carrie Sellars and husband, Rusty of Delaware, Oklahoma, Amanda Smith of Independence, Kansas, Lori Carnahan and husband, Craig of Altamont, Kansas; grandchildren, Brock Sellars, Kendra Sellars, Kallie Smith, Lucas Smith, Kennedy Carnahan, Keeley Carnahan; brothers, David Cooper and wife, Geri of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ronald Cooper and wife, Carol of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tom Cooper and wife, Marty of Neodesha, Kansas; sister, Beth Rogers and husband, Terry of Dewey, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Carley Carnahan; brother, Dennis Cooper and sister, Diane Birt. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Center Bethel Church northeast of Altamont, Kansas (church address is 1699 18000 Road, Parsons, KS), with Allen Banzet officiating. Interment will follow at the North Edna Cemetery in Edna, Kansas. Friends may call on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family will greet friends Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may also call on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Labette County Fair Association; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
