Donald S. Clayton, 94 of Coffeyville, KS passed away Sunday morning at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. Donald was born on July 16, 1922 to Thomas B. and Sadie (Henderson) Clayton in Sycamore, KS. He attended school in Sycamore. He served in the Army and was stationed overseas in both France and Germany. While he was in the Army, he was united in marriage to Charlene Buchanan in Brownwood, TX. They lived in the Coffeyville area where they raised their 3 children, Donald Jr., Paula and Linda. Donald was a member of both the VFW Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, being outdoors and gardening, but most of all he loved his kids and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife, Charlene, one brother, Glen Clayton, daughter-in-law, Roberta Clayton and son-in-law Jim Barnett and granddaughter, Sasha Barnett. Donald is survived by his children, Donald Clayton, Jr. of Texhoma, OK, Paula Haines and husband Kerry of Fredonia, KS, Linda Handshumaker and husband and Mike of Coffeyville, one brother, Melvin Clayton of Independence, KS, two sisters, Jean Parker of Tyro, KS and Lela Wyler of Portland, OR, twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Graveside Services will be Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Spring Hill Cemetery north of Coffeyville, KS. Friends may call on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Post Kansas Honor Flight or VFW Post #1020 and may be left at the funeral home or mailed C/O David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
