Obituary of Kathleen R. Eck

Kathleen R. Eck, 73, of Coffeyville passed away Sunday morning March 19, 2017, at her home. She was born on December 28, 1943, at Independence, KS to Roy J. and Gertrude F. (Bennett) Garrett. Kathleen grew up and attended school in Cherryvale, KS, graduating from Cherryvale High School in 1961. After graduating from high school she attended Bartlesville Business College in Bartlesville, OK. On June 18, 1962, she married Don Reed, to this union four daughters were born. They were later divorced in 1981. On October 1, 1984, she married Garrey Dean Eck at Miami, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. Mr. Eck preceded her in death on September 8, 2004. Kathleen worked as a teacher's aide, worked in restaurants and was an Inspector at Acme Foundry until retiring in 1989. She attended Lewark Church of God, was president of the Manor House Co-op, enjoyed attending Devotion Groups at Manor House, and also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and fishing. However her greatest love was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include four daughters, Brenda Grigg and husband Daniel of Coffeyville, Betty Light and husband Harry of Eldon, MO, Barbara Baker and husband Mycale of South Coffeyville, OK, and Jessica Fitch and husband Brian of Argonia, KS; step-son, Bill Eck of Cherryvale, Val Eck of Dearing, and Deneece Journot of Parsons; one sister, Barbara Logan of Cherryvale; one brother, Lyle Garrett of Independence; eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Garrey Eck, one grandson, Zack Baker, one brother and five sisters. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017, at the Spring Hill Cemetery southeast of Parsons, KS on Pratt Road, with Pastor Marty Warren officiating. Friends may call on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
