Babs Shepard, 61, of Coffeyville passed away Monday, April 24, 2017, at her home. She was born on June 16, 1955, at Independence, KS, to Fred and Barbara (Johnson) Wilkin. Babs grew up and attended school in Independence, graduating from Independence High School. She attended Independence Community College, Washburn University in Topeka, and graduated from the University of Kansas. On June 12, 1976, she was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Shepard at Independence. Following their marriage they lived in the Kansas City area until moving to Coffeyville in December 1978. After her children were older Babs worked for Kansas Lumber for 20 years before starting work in the Admissions Office at Coffeyville Community College. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville, PEO Chapter DR, and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Babs enjoyed helping kids, she helped in student services, and the CCC Foundation, but her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Robert of the home; two sons, Brad Shepard and wife Laura of Noblesville, IN, and Brian Shepard of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Andrew and Hannah Shepard of Noblesville, IN; one brother, Steve Wilkin of Independence; and one sister, Ann Crow and husband Dr. Stewart, D.D.S. of Wichita. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville with Father Chad Arnold officiating. Friends may sign the register book on Monday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Holy Name Catholic Church, CCC Foundation, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Coffeyville Friends of Animals, or charity of the donor's choice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
