Mark Galen Barg, 87, of Coffeyville passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017, at his home. He was born on March 22, 1930 at Eureka, KS to Gustav and Lottie (Vandémark) Barg. Mark grew up and attended school in the Tonovay, KS area, graduating from Tonovay High School. Mark was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Army from 1952 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1954. On June 12, 1955, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Joan Downing at Eureka, KS. Following their marriage they made their home in the Eureka area until moving to Coffeyville. He began working for the Alfalfa Mill in Eureka, he later worked in the Oil Fields until becoming a State Farm Insurance Co. Agent. After selling insurance for several years he came co-owner of several Sonic Drive In's. Mark was an avid outdoorsman, he also enjoyed many years of Square Dancing with his wife, and meeting new friends. He was a charter member of Westside Christian Church in Coffeyville. Mark was also a member of Fidelity Masonic Lodge #106 A.F. & A. M. in Eureka, KS, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Left to treasure his memory is his loving wife of 62 years, Joan of the home in Coffeyville; two sons, Eric Barg of Las Vegas, NV, and Randy Barg and wife Lona of Coffeyville; two grandchildren, Amanda Akins and husband Chris of Coffeyville, and Kristofer Barg of Coffeyville; one great-granddaughter, Emily Akins of Coffeyville; one brother, David Barg of Eureka, KS; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Phillip Barg, and Charles Barg; and two sisters, June Ball, and Charlene Grove. A gathering of family and friends will be on Friday, August 18, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Westside Christian Church Fellowship Hall. Following Mark's wishes cremation has taken place. The family suggests memorials to the Westside Christian Church; contributions may be left with or mailed to David W. Barnes Funeal Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
