Obituary of Wayne H. Hett

Rev. Wayne Henry Hett, 82 of Independence, KS, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct 13, 2017.

 

Wayne was born in his family home in Marion, KS to Henry Hett, Jr and Elva Ethel (Rogers) Hett on September 29, 1935. After serving in the military for three years and working in oil fields, he married Dorothy Peoples Starks in 1962. They were married for 48 years when Dorothy passed away. Together they raised five children and is survived by Susan Hardesty, Garry Starks, Marcia LaNelle Martin, Wendy Keplinger, and Markel Porter, 13 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. Wayne's siblings were Hilda Bestvater, Fern Steele, Nadine Duffy, and Roger Hett. He is survived by Roger Hett.

 

Wayne graduated from Marion High School, KS and Oklahoma State University Technical school with a degree in Diesel Mechanics. He gave his life to Christ at the age of 29 and surrendered to the Gospel Ministry the next year. He pastored churches in Eram, OK; Cottonwood Falls, KS; Cherryvale, KS; and Independence, KS. He also pastored a mission church in Salina, KS. Aside from ministering, he was proprietor of Wayne Hett Boat Works in Independence, KS.

 

A Memorial Service celebrating Wayne's life will be will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 5, 2017, at New Life Baptist Church, 2515 S. 10th St., Independence, KS. Inurnment will be in the Pratt Cemetery east of Independence.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations are being received for Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Jesus Film Project or the New Life Baptist Church Building Fund; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
