Obituary of Charles Ray Brown

Charles "Charlie" Ray Brown, 65, of Grove Oklahoma peacefully passed from this temporary life to his eternal home with Jesus on December 24, 2017. Charlie was born on September 14, 1952 in Wichita, Kansas to Charles Ivan and Clora Faye (Hurst) Brown. He spent most of his childhood in South Coffeyville, OK and graduated from Lenapah High School in 1970. He was an acclaimed athlete in high school, excelling in baseball and basketball. After high school, Charlie entered the Marine Corps earning the rank of Corporal after one year, a remarkable feat. He considered his service to his country an honor and one of his greatest accomplishments. After completing his service, he began his career in specialty welding. Starting as a welder before achieving the title of field operations manager for Welding Services, Inc. from 1989 until his early retirement in 2006. He loved attending late model dirt track races going to many different locations around the country. His favorites being Eldora Speedway in OH and Lucas Oil Speedway in MO. He enjoyed spending time with his many buddies, boating and watching college football, basketball (Jayhawks) and ESPN. Later in life, he found his dog, Schalke, to be a great source of entertainment. He married Janet Holland in 1978. This union produced two children. They later divorced. After remaining a single father for many years, he married Pamela Stamper, the love of his life. The couple made their home on Grand Lake for the past fifteen years. She survives to honor his memory. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his children Charles Nicholas Brown and wife Angela of Owasso, OK, Scott Isaac Brown and wife, Micaela of Tulsa, OK; step-son, Derek Ryan Stamper of Stillwater, OK; grandson, Colten Brown of Owasso, OK; sister-in-law, Janette Brown of South Coffeyville, OK; and childhood best friend, Randy Emberson, of Miami, OK. He was preceded in death by his parent, Charles and Clora Brown; brother, David Brown, Richard Brown, infant brother Stephen Brown; numerous aunts and uncles; and his special uncle Ray who was particularly close and his best buddy Danny Stamper. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 and 11:00 a.m. at the Emmanuel Chapel in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma. Pastor Jimmy Harrington will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of David W. Barnes funeral home in Coffeyville, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to Disabled American Veterans; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W.
