Obituary of Danny J. Reister

Danny J. Reister, 70, of Liberty, KS passed away Friday, January 19, 2018, at his home. He was born on October 20, 1947, at Independence, Ks to George H. and Martha L. (Goodson) Reister. Danny grew up and attended school in Montgomery County, graduating from Labette County High School in Altamont in 1965. In 1967, he married Ruth Jensen, the had three children, Dee Ann, Troy, and Tracy. They were later divorced in. On January 10, 1975, he married Margaret A. Gebhart of Egan S.D. following their marriage they made their home in the Liberty area. They had two children, Jamie and Lori. Danny was employed as a pipefitter at Farmland Refinery now Coffeyville Resources, retiring in 2004 after 36 years of service. Danny was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #20 serving as Commander for 2 terms, and Pipefitters Union Local #123. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, but his greatest joy was being surrounded by his family especially is grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Reister of the home; his children, Dee Ann Hugo and husband, Dwight of Coffeyville, Troy Reister of Independence, Tracy Reister of Deltona, FL; Jamie Reister and wife Cally of Independence, and Lori Reedy and husband, Brian of Liberty; one brother, Mike Reister and wife, Wanda of Franklin, WI; one sister, Paula Walters and husband, Dave of Coffeyville; nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Sissy. A Memorial Service celebrating Danny's life will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the Liberty United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Booe officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20. Following Danny's wishes cremation has taken place and inurnment will be at a later date. Friends may sign the register book on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
