Doris A. Chambers, 84, of Coffeyville, passed Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at her home.
She was born August 24, 1927 at Coffeyville to Roy and Bernice (King) Duckworth. Doris grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School and Coffeyville Community College. After completing her education she was employed as a secretary at National Refinery in Coffeyville.
On November 6, 1949 she married George W. Chambers at the First Christian Church in Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville, in 1953 they moved into the house George built for them on Glendale Ave. and lived there, their entire 61 years of marriage. Her husband preceded her in death on January 27, 2011.
She was a member of Tyro Christian Church, Black Dog Campers Club, and volunteered at Genisis. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, sewing, needle work, reading, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Newcomb and husband Jack of rural Chautauqua County, KS and Donna Chambers of Tulsa, OK, three grandsons Jerod Newcomb and wife Jessica of Kenosha, WI, Grant Newcomb of El Dorado, KS, Sam Higgins of Tulsa, OK, and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother.
Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 16, 2011 at Tyro Christian Church in Tyro, with David Bycroft officiating. Burial will be in the Robbins Cemetery, west of Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
