James W. “Jim” Mummert, 74, of Coffeyville passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017, at Windsor Place. He was born on September 28, 1942, at Los Angeles, California to Warren “Bud” and Vivian (Soldono) Mummert. When he was young the family moved to Coffeyville where Jim grew up and attended school graduating from Field Kindley High School. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from October 30, 1962, until receiving an honorable discharge on October 28, 1966. After his discharge he returned to Coffeyville where he began his career with the railroad working on the Bridge Gang. On July 9, 1975, he was united in marriage to Terri Hill at Miami, Oklahoma. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. He was a member of Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M. Jim also owned and operated Chicks Pool Hall for many years, he loved playing pool and for many years taught young people to play, he also enjoyed golfing, and old cars, but most of all loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Terri of the home; one daughter, Susie Wilkerson of Mesa, AZ; and two step-sons, David Bell of Colorado Springs, CO, and Danny Beck of Chicago, IL; two brothers, Cody Mummert of Coffeyville, and Thomas Mummert of Bentonville, AR; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Tommy Mummert. A gathering of family and friends Celebrating Jim’s Life will be on Friday, February 24, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. Following Jim’s wishes cremation has taken place and no other service is planned at this time.
