Obituary of Violet Ruth Walker

Violet "Ruth" Walker, 92, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Ruth was born on April 26, 1925 in Wann, Oklahoma to Robert and Mabel (Roberts) Brooks. She grew up in the Wann area where she attended Oakdale School in Noxie and graduated from Wann High School. On October 23, 1943 she was united in marriage to Howard Eugene Walker in Nowata, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Coffeyville, Kansas. They had six children that kept her very busy and she worked as a certified nurse's aide for CRMC in the OB unit. Ruth was a member of the Southview Church of God. She loved going to church and for many years helped teach Sunday school. She enjoyed traveling; most recently she had been to Alaska, Hawaii and Canada. She also liked to crochet and go shopping. What she loved most was spending time with her family. Surviving to honor her memory are her children; Ronnie Walker and wife, Deloris of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Roger Walker and wife, Joyce of Coffeyville, Kansas, Juanita Herrington of Dayton, Texas, Dianna Foster of Coffeyville, Kansas, Lona Barg and husband, Randy of Coffeyville, Kansas; sisters, Ida Rosson of rural South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Jo Browning and husband, Stanley of DeSoto, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; fourteen step great grandchildren; sixteen great-great grandchildren and numerous step great-great grandchildren; and her faithful Poodle Toby. Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Howard E. Walker; son, Howard Gene Walker; brothers, Lee, Johnny and Robert Brooks; sisters, Dorothy Horn, Lula Brooks, Elsie Fast and Mary Heale; granddaughter, Sherri Herrington; great grandson, Chris Heighton; step granddaughter, Patricia Smith; and by a step great grandson, Benjamin Barnhart. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Southview Church of God in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with the family present at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville Memorial contributions may be made to Southview Church of God or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and can be left at the funeral home or mailed in c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
