Obituary of Kelly Wayne Oldham

Retired Damage Control Chief, Surface Warfare Specialist, Kelly Wayne Oldham received his final and eternal "Port Call" home on September 28, 2017. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The honoring of Kelly's life will be Saturday, October 7th, 2017 at 10:00 am, at First Church of the Nazarene, followed by his final lay to rest at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery located in Coffeyville, Kansas. Kelly Wayne was born December 30, 1957 in Indio, California to Bobby Joe and Mary Sue Oldham. He was the second child of seven, but the first-born son and brother to the Oldham gang. At age 11, his family made their last major move and settled in Lompoc, California, where his life would be forever changed. It was there he had grass at his doorstep, played organized sports, and met the love of his life, Lyndene Campbell. Kelly joined the United States Navy at age 17, July 17th, 1975. Aboard the USS Oklahoma City, headed for Yokosuka, Japan, was his first overseas deployment. He quickly adapted to the new lifestyle and restless activities that sailors enjoy. He played football for the Navy Seahawks; sumo wrestled, went to festivals and traveled across the Asian-Pacific. . August 9th, 1979, at the Little Church of the West in Las Vegas, Nevada, Kelly Wayne and Lyndene Jo became the next Oldham family. February 2, 1984 while stationed in San Antonio, TX as a recruiting officer for the U.S. Navy Kelly welcomed the birth of his son, David Joe. Being a father was better than anything he had experienced thus far. December 17, 1987 while stationed in San Diego, CA, Kelly welcomed his daughter Amanda Lea. In 1991, now D.C.C.S.W.S. Kelly W. Oldham, stationed aboard the USS Chancellorsville, was asked to be apart of the Bravo Battle Company for the Pacific Naval Fleet, for the Persian Gulf/ Dessert Storm war. After his overseas deployment, Chief Oldham was faced with a promotion or continue his life as a dedicated Father. October 31, 1995, he signed papers to retire and embark on his new adventure as Retired Chief Oldham, and full-time Dad. July of 1995, Kelly and his family moved to Coffeyville. While living in Coffeyville, he mentored 1,000s of adults and kids alike. He coached various sports, bringing his well-known California flare to Kansas. He was the first to make you smile and yell for you when you had done right, or help you fix what you had done wrong. Kelly was an amazing big and little brother, husband, Dad, Grandfather, Chief, coach, friend, and role model. He would listen to all the problems and give heartfelt advice no matter how hard it was to hear. D.C.C.S.W.S Kelly Wayne Oldham was a "Press On Regardless" kind of Chief, renew your vows after 25 years kind of husband, a never leave your side kind of brother and Dad. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Mickey B. Oldham, wife Lyndene Jo Campbell- Oldham, mother Mary Sue Collins Oldham Lane, and father Bobby Joe Oldham. He is survived by his son David Joe Oldham, wife Stephanie Kuehn Oldham, granddaughter Jorja L. Oldham, and grandson James M. Oldham, daughter Amanda Lea Oldham, sisters Deborah, Vicki, Tracy, Pamela, Rhonda, and brother Bobby. Countless nieces and nephews, from Texas, Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma. We will continue to "Press On Regardless", enjoy the endless bounty of peace, Dad. Fair Winds and Following Seas, Chief Oldham. We have the watch now.
