Harold Barnett, age 97 lifelong area farmer and rancher passed on to his heavenly home on April 26, 2022 at Windsor Place of Coffeyville. Harold was born in Hewins, KS on November 10, 1924 to Barna F and Verda (Bradley) Barnett. He attended school in Bowring, Oklahoma graduating in 1944. After graduating he served in the Army where he was enlisted as an automatic rifleman under 383rd Infantry. While serving his battalion was stationed in Ryukyus Islands in Japan. After his honorable discharge he returned home and worked for area ranches in the Bowring, Oklahoma area, then hiring on with Phillips 66 in Bartlesville, OK until his retirement. On February 25, 1955 he was united in marriage to Shirley Nadine Ashbrook in Nowata, OK at the First Baptist Church. He was a past member of the First Baptist Church of Caney and was currently a member of Tyro Christian Church. Harold was a longtime member of the Caney and Havana Fire Department, a member of the Caney American Legion Post 138, a member and Past Post Commander of the Caney VFW Post 1358, and a member of the Masonic Lodge as well as other organizations. Harold’s memories live on with his wife of 67 years Nadine, one daughter, Barbara (Gregg) Bush of Caney, KS, grandsons; Shaun (Jennifer) Bush of Caney, KS, Ryan (Erin) Bush of Caney, KS, and Corey (Ricki) Bush of Dustin, OK, great-grandchildren; Charli, Rhett, Wyatt, Lille, and Colter Bush. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Alice Ilene Ibach. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Tyro Christian Church 301 S Market Tyro, KS with David Bycroft and Brian Ingalls officiating. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, KS with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 20, VFW Post 1022, Fort Riley, and Freedom Riders. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Tyro Christian Church. The family suggests memorials in honor of Harold to be made payable to the Havana Veteran’s Association and they may be sent in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N Cline Coffeyville, KS 67337.
