Coffeyville - George L. McGinnis, 88, of Coffeyville, passed away Monday morning (January 8, 2007) at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was born October 26, 1948 at Independence, Kansas to George Lee and Gertrude (Emery) McGinnis. He grew up and attended school in Coffeyville. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army from December 1940, until receiving an honorable discharge in October 1945. In June 1961 he married Ruby King at Miami, Oklahoma. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. She preceded him in death on June 8, 2005. Survivors include two sons, Larry McGinnis of Coffeyville, and Terry McGinnis of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; one step-son, Gary Goodman of Vinita, Oklahoma; two step-daughters, Phyllis Butherus of Goddard, KS, and Darlene Lightle of Latham, Ohio; one sister, Doris Stroud of Coffeyville; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday (January 9, 2007) at the Veterans Patio in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
