Coffeyville, KS - Charles H. Lindesmith, 87, of rural Independence, passed away Saturday morning (June 10, 2006) at his home northeast of Tyro. He was born February 24, 1919 at Dora, Missouri to J.H. and Emma (Doty) Lindesmith. When he was 3 year old the family moved to the Lenepah and Delaware, Oklahoma area where he grew up and attended school. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army serving during WWII in the 596th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion in Archipelago, New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon. He received an honorable discharge on November 30, 1945. On February 16, 1946 he married Wanda Austin at Bentonville, Arkansas. Following their marriage they made their home in the Coffeyville area where Mr. Lindesmith was employed at the Ludiwici-Celedon Brick Co., Co-op Refinery, Missouri Pacific Railroad and did construction work. In 1955 they moved to their farm northeast of Tyro where he farmed until retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Tyro Christian Church and the Joy group at his church. Survivors include his wife, Wanda of the home; three daughters, Nancy Allen and her husband Blake of rural Independence, KS, Dana Vermeire and her husband Tom of Dewey, OK, and Diane Mills and her husband Bill of Eureka, KS; one sister, Lena Ransbottom of Ponca City, OK; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (June 13, 2006) in the Tyro Christian Church with David Bycroft officiating. Burial will be in Fawn Creek Cemetery northeast of Tyro. Casket Bearers will be Mr. Lindesmith's grandsons, Aaron Richey, Andy Allen, Bryan Allen, Brandon Richey, Willy Mills and Mark Allen. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Harold Walls and Bud Betts. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to the Tyro Christian Church Joy Group, contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Rd., Coffeyville, KS 67337. David. W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville is in charge of arrangements.
