Coffeyville - Bettie J. Coen, 80, of Wamego, KS, formerly of Coffeyville, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Wamego City Hospital. She was born January 2, 1931 at Gridley, KS to Arthur L. and Dolly P. (Martin) Gregg. Bettie grew up and attended school at Gridley, graduating from Gridley High School. Following high school she attended Wichita Business College in Wichita, KS. On January 17, 1954 she married Arnold Svoboda at Wichita, KS. They were divorced in 1978. She later married Donald E. Coen he preceded her in death on August 15, 2010. Bettie was employed at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center for over 17 years retiring on April 1, 1993. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and V.F.W. Auxiliary. Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Peddicord and husband Randy of Wamego, and Kim Dennis and husband David of Springfield, MO; three step-sons, James Coen and wife Janet of Coffeyville, John Coen and wife Donna of Owasso, OK, and Terry Lynn Coen and wife Terry S. of Trinity, TX; eight grandchildren, Abby Dennis, Carlye Dennis, Hannah Peddicord, Tucker Peddicord, Rory Peddicord, Keven Coen, Sean Coen and Logan Coen; and three great-grandchildren, Eli. Colton, and Isabella Peddicord. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Floyd Martin, and one sister, Harriett Axford. A Memorial Graveside Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the Veterans Patio in Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Richard Peckman of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Inurnment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register book on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Coffeyville Public Library; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
