Coffeyville - Kay Danielle Houston, 72, of Edna and Coffeyville, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011 at her residence in Coffeyville. She was born December 27, 1938 at Topeka to J.B. and Genevieve G. (Gibson) Moses. Kay grew up in Coffeyville where she attended Holy Name Catholic School and Field Kindley High School graduating in 1956. After completing high school she attended business college at Mount Clemens, MI. She married Bill Barnett, they were divorced in 1963. On February 12, 1966 she married Billie Merl Houston at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home on their farm near Edna. When she was young Kay worked at Kress's, as a secretary at Nutrina Mills and KGGF Radio, when her children were older she returned to work as receptionist and bookkeeper for Dr. Jack Shanahan and later for Dr. Kim Woods. Her husband preceded her in death on September 1, 2010. Kay was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church for many years, and later a member of Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego. She enjoyed bird watching, doll making, gardening, baking, and spending time with her family. Survivors include three sons, Brian Gibson Barnett and wife Jeanie of Edna, James Edward Houston and wife Belinda of Bartlett, and Wayne Christopher Houston of Edna; three brothers, Sonny Moses, Billy Moses and David Moses all of Coffeyville; three sisters, Diane Peters of Pryor, OK, Karen Law of Grove, OK, and Patti Moses of Coffeyville; one granddaughters, Erin Elizabeth Barnett of Edna, and two step-children, Brian Snyder and Amanda Snyder both of Parsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two infant children, Stephen Dominic Houston and Mary Katherine Houston, two brothers, Jim Moses and Jack Moses, and one sister, Michaelle Hoggatt. A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2011 at Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego with Father Larry Parker officiating. Burial will be Lake Creek Cemetery west of Bartlett. Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to an education fund being established for his granddaughter Erin Barnett; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
