Coffeyville - Edwin E. Chaney, 91, of Coffeyville passed away Tuesday morning, September 6, 2011 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was born July 24, 1920 northwest of Coffeyville to Bert and Eva (Richarz) Chaney. Mr. Chaney spent his youth on the family farm until the family moved to Coffeyville in 1930; he completed his education in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School. In 1939 he joined the National Guard, he was called to active duty in 1940 and was honorably discharged in 1942. In July 1942 he married Gircie Gatewood. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where Mr. Chaney worked at the Sinclair Refinery from 1944 until it closed in 1949. In 1951 he went to work at CRA, Inc. Refinery and later Farmland Refinery where he worked until retiring in July 1982, at the time of his retirement he was Production Supervisor Lube Oil Packaging Plant. After retifing he worked as a Security Gquard from 1991 until 2002. Gircie preceded him in death in January 1976. In April 1974 he married Eileen Brothers. She preceded him in death in December 2003. He was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #20, Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M., was Past Master of Keystone, Lodge, and Scottish Rite of Free Masonry in Fort Scott, KS. Survivors include one son, Michael E. Chaney of Duluth, MN; one step-son, John Brothers, of Lawrence, KS, one step-daughter, Linda Kennedy Estes of Overland Park, KS; three brothers, Robert Chaney of Coffeyville, Bert Chaney of Hutchinson, KS, and George Chaney of Ottawa, KS; four sisters, his twin sister, Edna Hey of Cape Girardeau, MO, Margaret Parker of Owasso, OK, Ethel Currier of Coffeyville, and Wanda Hunt of Collinsville, OK; one granddaughter, Jessica, six step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, and wives, he was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Charley, Albert, Walter, and Don; and four sisters, Pearl, Mable, Grace, and Mary. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with Masonic Rites conducted by Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M. Friends may call on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
