Coffeyville - Julia A. "Judy" Leaman, 72, of South Coffeyville, OK, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Cancun, Mexico. She was born July 31, 1938 at Coffeyville to Earl Alvis and Leila (Klestill) Coop. Judy grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School, Coffeyville Community College and Pittsburg State University where she received her Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education and later completed a Masters Degree. On August 21, 1960 she married Ronald Leaman at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in the Coffeyville and South Coffeyville, OK area, where Judy taught Kindergarten for many years starting at Baxter Springs, and Peru before accepting a position with U.S.D. #445 where she taught until retiring, following her retirement she continued to work with students as a substitute teacher. Her husband preceded her in death. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Coffeyville, and a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Judy loved working with children and for many years she organized the KDIC (Kids Drop in Center) at her church. She enjoyed playing Canasta and Bridge, and loved spending time with her family. Survivors include one son, Mark Leaman of Independence; one brother, Jim Coop of Atchison, KS; grandchildren, Haley Leaman, Will Leaman and Meagan Bidwell; and one great-grandson, Brett Leaman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Mike Leaman and one brother. A Memorial Service will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Diane Massey officiating. Inurnment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Friends may sign the register book on Friday, July 8, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church or Susan G. Komen for the Cure; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
