Coffeyville - Warren James "Jim" Hayes, 72, of Coffeyville passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Bartlesville, OK. He was born in Bartlesville, OK on January 1, 1939 to W.J. "Doc" and Olive L. "Sunny" (Crook) Hayes. Jim grew up at attended school in Bartlesville graduating from College High School in 1957, and attended Oklahoma State University and later, Northeastern State University at Tahlequah, OK. While at Tahlequah, Jim met the love of his life, Mary Abbott, who he married on August 3, 1962 at Broken Arrow, OK. Jim and Mary completed their family with the births of their children, Kris and Trey. Jim had recently retired in August 2010 from the City of Coffeyville, where he had been the City Inspector for 34 years. Jim was an avid golfer his entire life, he was longtime member of Coffeyville Country Club and was past president of the Men's Golf Association; in 2009 he was inducted into the Bartlesville High School Athletic Hall of Fame as part of the state championship golf team of 1957. In Jim's younger days, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Jim also enjoyed reading, cooking, and of course spending time with his family. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and by his beloved grandson, C.J. Crane. He is survived by his wife, Mary of the home; his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter, Kris, Charlie, and Katey Crane of Coffeyville; his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, Trey, Shelia, Jarrett and Jordan Hayes of Coffeyville; and his brother-in-law. Jack D. Abbott of Tulsa, OK. In addition to his family and friends, Jim also leaves behind his much loved pets, Mattie, Rick, Sport, Catsby, Kazi, and Missy. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville with Dr. Virgil Horn officiating Friends may sign the register book on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials be made to the C.J. Crane Memorial Scholarship Fund at Coffeyville Community College; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline, Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
