Coffeyville - Karen Freeman, 66, of Winfield, KS, former longtime Coffeyville resident, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield. She was born January 23, 1945 at Coffeyville to Elmo Oscar and Marjorie (Davis) Horn. Karen grew up in Coffeyville where she attended school, graduating from Field Kindley High School and Coffeyville Community College. On October 20, 1973 she married William E. Freeman at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. They were later divorced. In the early 1970's Karen began working at Farmland Refinery in the personnel office; in 1996 she was transferred to the home office in Kansas City, MO where she served as Human Resource Manager until retiring in 2003 after 37 years, when she moved to Winfield. Karen was a member of Sardis Baptist Church in Coffeyville, and the Second Baptist Church in Winfield. While living in Winfield, she was a member of Eagles Nest, Women after Five, Stonecraft Ministries, and served on the Habitat for Humanity Board. While living in Coffeyville she served on the New Beginnings Board, Harmon Park Board, was a Band Booster, and former member and past President of the U.S.D. #445 Board of Education. Survivors include one son, Derrick Freeman of Kansas City, MO; two daughters, SaNette McKellips of Riverside, MO, and Lea Ann Freeman of Winfield; two sisters, Vettra Horn of Kansas City, KS; and Gayle McPherson and husband Larry of Winfield; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Oscar Horn. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville, with Dr. Virgil Horn officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
