Coffeyville - Leo R. Moore of Coffeyville, Kansas passes away peacefully on Saturday with his family by his side. He was born February 22, 1922, on a farm in Altamont Kansas Survived by his son James Moore and his wife Mary; his brother Bill Moore; his grandson James Moore, his wife Alicia and their two children, Avilene and Leo; his grandson Monte Moore, his wife Shayne and their two children, Spencer and Emily Grace, and many many close friends Leo worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for over 30 years before retiring in 1980. Preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Madeline Moore, in February of this year; his parents, Ira and Minnie Moore; and his brother, Dale Moore; Leo was a proud US Navy World War II veteran, a member of Elliott-Funston-White V.F.W. Post #1022, Past Master of Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite in Fort Scott, Mirza Temple in Pittsburg and volunteer with Tulsa Scottish Rite as well as a member of Order of Eastern Star Coffeyville Chapter #112. Leo was the humble recipient of the Theodore N. Vail medal for noteworthy public service for saving three persons from possible drowning in the Verdigris River. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, and longtime coach for boys little league baseball and girls softball. Leo was also a big fan of most sports especially University of Oklahoma. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Randall Terrill officiating; Order of Eastern Star service will be conducted by Coffeyville Chapter #112, and Masonic Rites will be conducted by Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park with military honors conducted by V.F.W. Post #1022. Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to the charity of the donor's choice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
