Sedan - Esther F. Hayes, 86, of Sedan, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at her home in Sedan. She was born on March 1, 1924 in Bellwood, Illinois to Adolph and Helen (Rauscher) Gurschke. She attended school at Maywood, Illinois and graduated from Proviso East High School in Maywood. On December 26, 1947 she married James Thomas Hayes in Bellwood, Illinois. They lived in Illinois their entire married life before moving to Sedan in 1992. On July 1, 1997 she was preceded in death by her husband James. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Caney. She enjoyed gardening, cleaning, yard work, sewing, cooking, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She is survived by her three daughters; Carol and husband David Perry of Naples, Florida, Sharon "Sherri" Hayes of Sedan, Kansas, and Debra and husband Jack Jess of Phoenix, Arizona; one son, Robert and wife Sheila Hayes of Bridgeview, Illinois; eight grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, James Steven Hayes, one brother, Adolph Gurschke and one grandson, Aaron Scott Thomas. Family and friends may sign the register book Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery with Ken Lott of the Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Inurnment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and remembrances may be left in care of the David W.
