Coffeyville - Dorothy Fern Garland, 80, of Oswego passed away at her home on Thursday, October 21, 2010 after a long struggle with cancer. A memorial visitation was held Monday, October 25, 2010 at the Oswego Community Center, and a private family inurnment will be at a later date. Dorothy F. Garland was born June 30, 1930, in McCune, Kansas, to Everett and Bessie (Copper) Nutt. She was a retired Mental Health Technician for the State of Kansas. She was married to Robert Atwood and he preceded her in death. On July 25, 1981, she married Larry Garland and he survives at the home. Mrs Garland is also survived by her six children, Jeri Sanders of Chetopa, Alan Atwood of Johnston RI, Robin Atwood and Rodney Atwood of Omaha NE, John Atwood and Lori Atwood of Oswego, her seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as two sisters, Mrs.Raymond Smith of Sherman and Mrs.Donald Woods of Cherryvale. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. She was a wonderful woman who gave much and asked little. She loved nurturing her family, friends and flower gardens. She will be greatly missed. Services are under the direction of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, Coffeyville, KS.
