Coffeyville - George Franklin Lawson, 67, a lifelong Independence resident, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Independence. George was born July 20, 1942 at Independence to Frank Owen and Dovie Mae (Hines) Lawson. He grew up and attended school at Independence graduating from Independence High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the military police. After receiving his honorable discharge he returned to Independence to make his home. On June 11, 1976, he married Louise (Ellinwood) Nelson at Miami, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Independence where George was a Supervisor at Emerson Electric for many years. George was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Elk City Masonic Lodge, Mirza Temple in Pittsburg, and American Legion Post #0138 in Caney. Survivors include his wife, Louise of Independence; one daughter, Theresa Lawson of Tulsa, OK; two step-daughters, Susan Fienen and husband Doug of Independence, and Kay Teague and husband Danny of Bartlesville, OK; one sister, Betty Busby and husband Steve of Independence; one grandson, four step-grandsons, one step-granddaughter, one step-great-granddaughter, three nephews and one niece. Cremation has taken place and private family inurnment will take place at a later date in the Ellinwood Family lot in Greenwood Cemetery at Sedan, KS. The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association; contributions may be left with the David W. Barnes Funeral Home or mailed c/o David W.
