Obituary of Lois R. Petty

Sedan- Lois R. Petty, 93, of Sedan, passed away Sunday morning December 27, 2009 at her home in Sedan. She was born November 4, 1916 in rural Sedan, Kansas to Thomas William and Lettie Blanche (Sanborn) Banning. She grew up in the Lowe community northwest of Sedan. She attended school at the Prairie View School thru the eighth grade. On May 26, 1936 she married Roy P. Petty in Howard, Kansas. They made their home on a farm outside of Sedan for many years and owned and operated the bakery for a number of years in Sedan before moving to Independence, Kansas and then to Iola, Kansas. They came back to Sedan in 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy on November 19, 2002. Survivors include two granddaughters; Janice Lyhane and her husband Michael of Marysville, Kansas and Cheryl Jones and husband Steve of Derby, Kansas; four great-grandchildren, Michael Lyhane and wife Ashley of Waterville, Kansas, Tyler Lyhane of Marysville, Kansas, Stephanie, and Sammy Jones of Derby, Kansas; two great-great grandchildren, Brendan and Kayla Lyhane of Waterville, Kansas; three sisters; Beulah Petty of Dexter, Kansas, Treva Gentry of Sedan, Kansas, and Glodene Sanders of Sedan, Kansas; one brother, Wesley Banning of Belknap, Kansas and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy P. Petty and one son Gary Petty, two sisters, Thelma Sanders and Neva Gene Sanders. Graveside Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas with Reverend Kevin Fogerty of the Chautauqua Southern Baptist Church officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
