Obituary of Twila B. Nutter

Sedan - Twila B. "Tillie" Nutter, of Caney, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. She was born June 16, 1921 near Elk City, KS, to Walter and Bertha (Winebrenner) Huffer. Tillie grew up and attended rural schools in Montgomery and Chautauqua Counties and graduated from Peru High School. On May 5, 1939 she married Leon Nutter at Independence, KS. Following their marriage they made their home in Montgomery and Chautauqua Counties and for several years near Copan, OK before moving to Caney where they lived for over 40 years. Mr. Nutter preceded her in death in 1998. Tillie was a seamstress and did work for many people, she loved her work, her passion was crocheting and sharing her beautiful handwork with her family and friends. She was a member of the Christian Church. Survivors include one son, Gary Nutter and his wife Beverly of Parsons, KS; three grandsons; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and her beloved companion, James Briscoe. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan with Rev. John Warring officiating. Private family burial will be in the Peru Cemetery at Peru, KS. Friends may call on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
