Obituary of Catherine W. Divers

Sedan - Catherine Lois Walton Divers, age 86 years, three months and eight days, entered into the presence of her Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday morning, December 22, 2009, at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan. Catherine was known to her many friends as "Kitty". Prior to moving to Sedan on November 1, 2007, Kitty was an active member, church treasurer, Sunday School teacher and church board secretary for the Baltimore Brooklyn Church of the Nazarene, located in the Brooklyn Park suburb of Baltimore, Maryland. When her third son, Dean, entered ordained ministry service, she followed him with church membership in local churches affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene denomination in Plainview, Texas, and with the American Baptist Churches USA denomination in Jamestown, New York, Des Moines, Iowa, and in Sedan, Kansas. Kitty also served for twenty-one years as the tenant council president of the Pinewood Village Senior Apartments, located in Glen Burnie, Maryland. She was instrumental in helping Pinewood Village open a residential park on their property, with the assistance of local county government officials and the management and staff of Pinewood Village. Kitty was born on August 14, 1923 in Newport News, Virginia, to Irving S. Walton and Edna H. Humphrey Walton. All of her eleven brothers and sisters have preceded her in death. She was married to Julius W. Divers on February 6, 1942 at Hilton Village, Virginia. They were divorced on January 29, 1963 in Hampton, Virginia. Four sons survive Catherine Divers: Warren L. Divers of Washington State, David E. Divers and his wife Lorraine of Alabaster, Alabama, Rev. Dr. J. Dean McNamara and his wife Vicki of Sedan, Kansas, and Richard C. McNamara and his wife Betty of Ruther Glen, Virginia. Four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive her. Family and Friends may call on Monday, December 28, from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. Funeral services for Catherine "Kitty" Divers will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Sedan, Kansas. The Reverend Mike Graham, Chaplain for the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice of Coffeyville, Kansas, will officiate. A memorial service celebrating her life and memory will be held in early February 2010 at the Glen Burnie Church of the Nazarene, in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Longtime family friend and former Brooklyn Church of the Nazarene member, the Reverend C. Michael Routh, pastor, will officiate. Inurnment of her cremains will follow the memorial service in Maryland. The family has requested that any local memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Sedan, Kansas; the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice of Coffeyville, Kansas; or the Sedan Ministerial Alliance in Sedan, Kansas. Local contributions can be sent to the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 North Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361. In Maryland, the family requests that any memorial contributions made in memory of Kitty Divers be made to the Glen Burnie Church of the Nazarene. David W.
