Obituary of Connie Thomas

Coffeyville - Connie Sue Thomas, 68, went to be with the Lord, November 30, 2009. Connie was born September 17, 1941 at Coffeyville, KS to Eugene Paul and Ramona (Ripley) Childress. She attended Cedar Bluff School as a child and graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1959. Following high school she attended Bartlesville School of Cosmetology graduating in 1960. After completing cosmetology school she worked at Faye's House of Beauty in Bartlesville until returning to the Coffeyville where she worked at Mildred's Beauty Shop for several years. On February 9, 1962 she married Jimmy Thomas at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in the Edna area where her husband farmed and ranched, and Connie owned and operated The Carousel Beauty Shop in Edna for many years. After retiring she assisted her husband in their farm and ranch business and Thomas Auction. She loved her church home Grace Fellowship in Coffeyville. Her hobbies were maintaining a beautiful lawn and garden and doting on her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Paul Childress, Jr. Survivors include her husband, Jim Thomas of the home in rural Altamont; two daughters, Gena Beck and husband Tim of Pittsburg, KS, and Gayla Baird and husband Bryan of Katy, TX; one son, Jay Dee Thomas and wife Jill of Edna; her mother, Ramona Childress of Coffeyville; two sisters, Sharon Kudrick of Coffeyville, and Patsy Burdett of Cypress, TX; eight grandchildren, Derek, Sydney, Drew and Samantha Beck, Grant and Jenna Baird, and Bryce and Megan Thomas; and many nieces and nephews who enjoyed their Aunt Con. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Grace Fellowship, 2455 Woodland Ave. in Coffeyville with Rev. Gerald Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the North Edna Cemetery at Edna, KS. Friends may call on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grace Fellowship.
