James O. "Jim" Spradlin, 80, of Coffeyville passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at his home.
He was born November 1, 1929, in Coffeyville to Irvin and Josephine (Boyd) Spradlin. Jim grew up and received his education in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School.
In September 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Army at Camp Chaffee, AR. After his discharge in 1951 he became employed at Continental Can Co., and later Dixon Aircraft. In 1969 became employed as a Technical Illustrator for Funk Mfg., he later became the Advertising Manager for Funk retiring in August 1991.
On December 31, 1951, he married Jo Ann Bentley in Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in the Coffeyville and Caney area.
Mr. Spradlin was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed traveling and painting portraits as a hobby, he spent some of his retirement as a volunteer delivering meals to homebound seniors.
Survivors include his wife Jo Ann Spradlin of the home; one son, Danny Spradlin and wife Debbie of Mountainburg, AR; one daughter, Donna Manley and husband Chuck of Coffeyville; two sisters, Bonnie Neal of Coffeyville, and Betty Good of Greenville, TX; six grandsons, Mark Manley, Brad Manley, Kyle Manley, Dennis Spradlin, Dustin Spradlin and Donald Spradlin; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and five sisters.
A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2009 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Richard Peckman officiating.
Friends may sign the register book on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
