Coffeyville - Theodore Hebur "Ted" Grundy, 92, of Coffeyville passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the Cherryvale Care Center in Cherryvale, KS. He was born February 1, 1917 at Hickory, Oklahoma to Theodore L. and Ruth Grundy. He grew up in and began his education in the Hickory area, and graduated from Tishomingo High School in Tishomingo, OK. After high school he attended Murray State College in Tishomingo where he received his Associates Degree and completed his Bachelor's degree in Education at Southeastern Oklahoma State University at Durant, Oklahoma. He later received a Masters degree from Tulsa University. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army, he was a Sergeant Major when he received his honorable discharge. In October 1936 he married Merle Fox. Following their marriage they made their home in Durant, OK where they taught school. In 1955 they moved to Coffeyville where they taught school. Ted retired in 1981 as Principal at Roosevelt Middle School. Mrs. Grundy preceded him in death in 2000. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M., Mirza Temple in Pittsburg, V.F.W., American Legion, Lions Club, and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Survivors include two sons, Philip A. Grundy and wife Marian of Coffeyville, and Hebur V. Grundy of Claremore, OK; nine grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one son, Harold Grundy in 1999. A Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2009 in the First United Methodist Church Chapel with Rev. John Collins officiating. Inurnment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park with military honors conducted by V.F.W. Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20. Friends may sign the register book on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
