Glenna Lee Harrell, 83, formerly of Coffeyville, passed away November 22, 2009 after gracefully dealing with Alzheimer's disease for many years.
Mrs. Harrell was born April 25, 1926 in Hutchinson to Glen and Pearl (Runkle) Battin. She grew up in Liberal and attended school there.
She married Bruce Harrell on February 14, 1947, at Wichita. The couple lived in Wichita after their marriage, and moved to Coffeyville in 1959 to start the business Tri-State Electric Supply Company.
Mrs. Harrell was involved in many social and community affairs in Coffeyville. She was a Girl Scout Leader and active in her church. She was a natural caregiver, giving to her family, her friends, and even strangers when there was a need. She went back to college when in her 50's and obtained a degree in English. She wrote many poems and stories that the family cherishes. She was interested in many things and had an inquiring mind. Throughout her life, she was on a spiritual quest and had a strong belief and relationship with God.
Mrs. Harrell was preceded in death by her husband, C.B. (Bruce) Harrell, and by her daughter, Michele Ann (Shelly) Kendrick.
Survivors include three children, Kathy Johnson and husband Ron of Spokane, Washington, Debbie Stevens and husband Leo of Owasso, Oklahoma, and Curtis Harrell and wife Corene of Coffeyville; one son-in-law, Michael Kendrick of Collinsville, Oklahoma; one brother, Dick Battin of Woodland Hills, California; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Memorial services are 2:00 P.M., Thursday, December 10, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Coffeyville. Burial of her ashes will occur at Fairview Cemetery immediately following the memorial service. David Barnes Funeral Home is serving the family.
