Edward M. Long, age 88, of rural Peru passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at his residence.
He was born January 27, 1921 to Ethan and Mary Elsie (Brown) Long in Rural Chautauqua County. He was raised in the Lone Cherry Community near Havana and attended Lone Cherry School until the eighth grade.
On April 30, 1943 he married Winimay Gorrell in Sedan, Kansas. They lived in rural Chautauqua County their entire life. To this union was born seven sons and two daughters. He worked as Truck Driver, Farmer, and he delivered newspapers for thirty years until his retirement.
He enjoyed raccoon hunting, selling eggs, and also loved his family.
He is survived by seven sons; Melvin Long of Cedar Vale, Kansas, Marvin Long of Peru, Kansas, Gene Long of Sedan, Kansas, Tom Long of Independence, Kansas, Jim Long of Peru, Kansas, Joe Long of Lafontaine,Kansas, and Paul Long of Peru, Kansas; two daughters; Marion Wheaton of Cedar Vale, Kansas and Lahoma Long of Peru, Kansas; thirty three grandchildren, seventy three great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Winimay, his parents, one sister, and two great grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held Friday, November 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Chautauqua, Kansas with Earl Tresner officiating.
Family and Friends may call Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday, November 6, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
