Coffeyville - Gladys Irene Ayres, age 84, longtime Coffeyville resident entered into rest on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at her home. Gladys was born February 24, 1925 in Oklahoma City, OK to George W. and Mary Elizabeth (Skaggs) Eaton. She attended school in Nowata County, OK and studied at Coffeyville Community College. She married Robert Wayne Wise in 1941, later they divorced, together they had one child. Later she married J.W. Moody, they had one child and were later divorced. In 1972 she married Hervey Ayres, Sr. Gladys raised her children by working various jobs. She worked at Continental Can Co. from 1951 to 1962 when they closed. Gladys then worked at Electra and Dixon's before going to work at Funk Mfg. where she worked 15 years retiring in 1987. After retiring Gladys and Hervey traveled to Canada, Mexico and all of the states west of Coffeyville. When her husband became ill Gladys cared for him for six years, Hervey died on October 18, 2003. Gladys was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and was a Sunday School teacher for several years. She is survived by two sons, Robert E. Wise of Cedar City, Utah, and Steven R. Moody of Coffeyville; two step-sons, Brad Moody of Owasso, OK, and Nolan Moody of Springfield, MO; one step-daughter, Joyce Fehr of Abilene, Texas; four grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and three great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, one step-daughter, and one step-son. Services will be at 10:00a.m. Monday, November 2, 2009 in the First United Methodist Church Chapel with Rev.'s John and Jennifer Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Chapel. The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
