Obituary of Becky Holmes

Coffeyville - Becky Holmes, 81, of Coffeyville, passed away Monday, October 5, 2009 at Windsor Place. She was born May 30, 1928 in rural South Coffeyville, Oklahoma to Jasper S. and Cecil B (Witwer) Gilliland. She grew up in rural South Coffeyville where she attended Witwer School through the 8th grade, and graduated from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville. On September 17, 1948 she married Gerald "Jerry" Holmes. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where Becky was terminal manager for Camel 66 Transfer and Storage for many years. Her husband preceded her in death in February 2002. Mrs. Holmes was a member of Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church, a long time active member of Circle C Saddle Club, and loved animals. Survivors include two brothers, Larry D. Gilliland of Broken Arrow, OK, and M. Ray Gilliland of Wichita; two nephews, Terry Gilliland of Tulsa, OK, and David H. Gilliland of Austin, TX; two nieces, Sherry Gilliland of Tulsa, OK, and Rebecca Gilliland Smith of Charlotte, NC; and a host of friends and neighbors. A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Becky's home, friends may gather at her home prior to the service. Cremation has taken place. The family suggests memorials to the Tatman Cancer Center at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center; contributions may be left with the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville or mailed c/o David W.
