Obituary of William E. Smith

Sedan - William E. "Bill" Smith, age 73, of Chautauqua, Kansas passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan, Kansas. He was born October 15, 1935 in Wynona, Oklahoma to Henry Coleman and Billie Jean (Burke) Smith. He attended and graduated from Shidler High School in Shidler, Oklahoma. Following high school he attended college in Oklahoma and Montana. He owned and operated his own trucking company for many years. He married Donna Haskell and she preceded him in death. He moved to Chautauqua in 2002. Before coming here he lived in Texhoma, Oklahoma. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his beloved cat. He is survived by three sons; Coleman Smith of Eureka, Montana, David Smith of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, and Robert Smith of Kalispell, Montana; two sisters; Margaret Conner of Sedan, Kansas and Elaine Barth of Waukesha, Wisconsin; four brothers; Joe Smith of Chautauqua, Kansas, Ray Smith of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Alan Smith of Grainola, Oklahoma, and Lee Smith of Beldenville, Wisconsin; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and the family has requested no services at this time. The family has suggested memorials to the Chautauqua County Animal Shelter and can be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
