Royal J. McCullough, age 80, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas.
He was born January 12, 1929 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Jerry and Inez McCullough. He was raised by his grandparents, Robert and Anna McCullough. Royal grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville, Kansas. Following high school Royal served in the U.S. Army.
On August 16, 1951 he married Maxine Mahoney at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville, Kansas. He lived his entire life in Coffeyville , prior to joining the Army Royal worked at Glencliff Dairies, following his discharge he returned to Coffeyville and went to work at Noel Plumbing. In 1965 he started McCullough Plumbing operating it until retiring in 1993.
Royal was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus,American Legion Post #20, and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1022.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine McCullough of the home in Coffeyville, Kansas; four sons, Dr. James McCullough and wife Leslie of Stillwell, Kansas, Brian McCullough and wife Vicki of Coffeyville , Mark McCullough and wife Chris of Coffeyville, Kansas and David McCullough and wife Kerry of Overland Park, Kansas; one brother, Frank McCullough of Coffeyville, Kansas; eleven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death one son, John Michael McCullough who passed away December 1995.
Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Coffeyville, Kansas.
A Rosary Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2009 at the Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ben Nguyen and Father Jerome Spexarth officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorials to the Holy Name Catholic School and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Road, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337-1207.
