Ruth Eikenberry, 78, of rural Edna, Kansas passed away Wednesday (December 19, 2007) at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
She was born December 4, 1929 in Coffeyville to Bill and Zada (Tweedie) Gerdes. Ruth grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School and Coffeyville Community College. She also attended Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS and Missouri Southern University in Joplin, MO.
On July 14, 1957 she married Dana Eikenberry at the First Christian Church in Coffeyville. Following their marriage the made their home in rural Edna. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past summer.
Ruth was employed at First Federal Savings and Loan in Coffeyville for 30 years retiring as Senior Vice President.
She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Coffeyville, where she had served as a Deaconess, and was active in the Crafty Ladies Group. She was a former member of the Coffeyville Community College Advisory Board and the Femancers Investment Club.
Survivors include her husband, Dana Eikenberry of the home; two sisters, Betty Long of Coffeyville and Hazel Knisley of Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Don Gerdes; and one sister, Eleanor Duval.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday (December 24, 2007) at the First Christian Church in Coffeyville with Rev. J.E. Reynolds officiating. Burial will be Lake Creek Cemetery west of Bartlett, KS.
Friends may call at the Eikenberry's home on Sunday (December 23, 2007) from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The residence is 2 miles east of Valeda, KS and 1 miles north.
