Dorothy Jean VanSickle, 69, of rural Coffeyville, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
She was born November 13, 1939 at Niotaze, KS, to Charles and Bessie (Wade) Reed. She grew up and attended school in the Coffeyville area.
On December 31, 1960 she married Clarence "Bud" VanSickle at Miami, OK.
Following their marriage they made their home in the Coffeyville area. Her husband preceded her in death in 1995.
Dorothy Jean was employed in the maintenance department at Spears Mfg. for the over 22 years, and also sold Avon for many years. She enjoyed reading, spending time with her children, grandchildren and cats.
Survivors include two daughters, Ronda Williams of Coffeyville, Deleta "Jody" Thompson and husband Stanley of Lawrence, KS; four grandchildren, Chrystopher and Martin Williams both of Coffeyville, Betha Thummel and husband Daniel of Hoxie, KS, and Jason Thompson of Lawrence; two great-grandchildren, Eric Michael and Jon Oliver Thummel both of Hoxie, KS; numerous other family members and friends; and her two companions, G.D. and Sylvester her cats.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2009 in the Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to Coffeyville Friends of Animals, Inc., or the American Cancer Society; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
