Marjorie Frances Hudgins, age 93, of Cedar Vale, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 13, 2009 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan, Kansas.
She was born July 2, 1915 in Cedar Vale, Kansas to Jay and Dorothea (Whitney) Toal. She attended school first at Cedar Vale and Sedan, graduating from the Sedan High School in 1933. She married Charles Pistole on March 30, 1936 and they later divorced in 1944. She married Milton L. Hudgins on November 6, 1950. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1971. She married Cecil R. Whaling on October 22, 1985, and later divorced in 1992.
Marjorie worked many years as custodian for the bank in Cedar Vale, then as a part-time clerk at the Post Office in Cedar Vale. She retired from the Post Office in April of 1985. She had lived in her home in Cedar Vale since about 1958.
She was a long-time member of the St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Cedar Vale. Margie, as she was known by friends, was very involved with the People's Place Senior Center in Cedar Vale. One of her great interests was to help organize bus trips for the senior citizens. She also took an avid interest in solving 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles and collecting stamps. She was known for her soft heart toward stray and homeless cats.
Marjorie is survived by one son, Roger L. Hudgins and his wife Lila of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and nine grandchildren including Randy Nellsch, formerly of Cedar Vale, Mandy (Hudgins) Foster of Burlington, NC, and Jaron Hudgins of Norman, OK, seventeen great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her brother George Toal, one daughter, Charlene Nellsch , former resident of Cedar Vale.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the Cedar Vale Cemetery in Cedar Vale, Kansas with Hospice Chaplain Mike Graham officiating. A Memorial Service will follow at 10:00 p.m. at the Long Shed in Cedar Vale, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorials to the People's Place in Cedar Vale and those remembrances can be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
