Lawrence "Larry" V. Crawmer, 85, of Coffeyville, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at his home.
Larry was born on November 23, 1923 in Speed, Kansas to Tillman and Olie (Barber) Crawmer. He grew up and attended school at Speed. On January 5, 1943 Larry enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in the Ship Repair Unit in the Asiatic-Pacific and American areas. He received an honorable discharge on February 17, 1946.
He married Gaynell "Jinx" Smith on June 12, 1949 at Bentonville, Arkansas. About this time the couple moved to Coffeyville where Larry was a boilermaker with the Boilermakers Union Local #83 in Kansas City, KS.
He was a member of Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church, Boilermaker Union #83, D.A.V. Lifetime Member, V.F.W. Lifetime Member, and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Gaynell "Jinx" of the home; one son, Lt. Col. Douglas Crawmer and wife Donna of Manhattan; three granddaughters Elizabeth Galvan, Rebecca Kadavy, and Sarah Crawmer; two step-grandchildren, Megan Kraus, and Nick Kraus; one great granddaughter, Taylin Kadavy; and one step-great-grandson, Ethan Goertzen. He has been preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Services will be Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 1:00pm at Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville with Rev. Wayne Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Navy.
Friends may call on Thursday, June 11 between 12:00pm and 6:00pm and Friday, June 12 from 9:00am until 9:00pm at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
Larry's family suggests memorials in his memory to Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church; contributions may be left at the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Rd., Coffeyvillle, KS, 67337.
