Coffeyville - Anderson Gates Harreld, 85, of Coffeyville passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009. He was born January 8, 1924 at Galena, KS to Anderson Gates and Bessie (Bridges) Harreld. He grew up and attended school in Galena, graduating from Galena High School. After high school he attended Fairfax Aviation School. Gates was employed at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita for several years before returning to the Galena area where he helped develop the Spring River Inn in Riverton. Gates later moved to Coffeyville where he was a route supervisor for Junge Baking Co. until he became the owner of Coffeyville Beauty College, which he operated for many years in downtown Coffeyville. After retiring from the Beauty College he operated Mr. Gates hair salon until retiring. On February 25, 1981 he married Sandra Shriver at the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Harreld of the home; one step-daughter, Virginia Schambron of Norman, OK; and two step-grandchildren, Miranda Schambron and Spencer Schambron both of Norman, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. A Memorial Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville with Pastor Mike Graham, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Chapel officiating. Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register book on Sunday, June 7, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
