Merle R. Allan, age 72, of Sedan, passed away Wednesday morning, June 3, 2009 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Merle was born June 9, 1936 in Kaw City, Oklahoma to Joseph Young and Opal Mae (Bunker) Allan. He attended and graduated from the Peru High School as Valedictorian of his class. He married Lou Thurman and they later divorced. He married Cindy Lewis and they also divorced. He was a farmer all his life and also retired from Morton Equipment of Sedan as a mechanic after working there for forty years.
He was a member of the Chautauqua Baptist Church and Chautauqua County Farm Bureau. He loved to work and play with his children and his dog.
He is survived by one son, Jeremiah Daniel Allan and wife Ronnie of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; one daughter, Jessica Dawn Wilson and husband Adam of Independence, Kansas; one step-son, Chris Lewis of Sedan, Kansas and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bob, Joe Dean and Elvis and one son, William Joseph Allan.
Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, June 5, 2009 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Chautauqua Baptist Church in Chautauqua, Kansas with Reverend Kevin Fogerty and Walt Darnall officiating. Interment will follow at the El Cado Cemetery located south of Peru, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Peru Scholarship Fund and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
