Alice M. Gillespie, 65, of Coffeyville, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
She was born September 21, 1943 at Hugo, OK to Al and Anna Marie (Crimmins) Males. When she was in grade school her family moved to rural Coffeyville where she completed her education, graduating from Labette County Community High School in 1961. Following high she attended Coffeyville Community College from 1962 to 1964.
From 1964 to 1967 she was employed as office secretary at Coffeyville Community College.
In 1967 she married Kenny Phipps, they were later divorced.
In 1974 she married Donnie Gillespie at Miami, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where Alice was employed as Secretary to the General Manager at Funk Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1999 after 27 years of employment.
Alice was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. She enjoyed fishing, sewing and going to casinos.
Survivors include her husband, Donnie Gillespie of the home; one daughter, Alyson Long and husband Dion of Coffeyville; her father and step-mother, Al and Eva Males of Coffeyville; two brothers, Don Males of Coffeyville, and Bud Males of Langley, OK; two sisters, Sharon High and Cathy Primo both of Coffeyville; five grandchildren, Alyssa, Matthew, and Eric Long, Kyle Gillespie, and Nicole Phelps; and two great-grandchildren, Timmy Phelps and Chase Gillespie. She was preceded in death by her mother; one brother, Chuck Males; one step-daughter, Becky Gillespie; and one step-son, Ricky Gillespie.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in the Pumpkin Creek Cemetery east of Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Monday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the Radiation and Oncology Center at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
