Coffeyville - Roger Y. Smith, 67, of Coffeyville passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Heritage Nursing Home in Girard, KS. He was born on April 21, 1942 in San Diego, CA to Sterling Yale and Sally Inez (Maples) Smith. When he was young his family moved to the Coffeyville area where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1960. In December 1962 he went to work at Farmland Refinery where he was employed until retiring in 2003. He also owned and operated Titan Liquidators in Coffeyville for 40 years. On February 7, 2003 he married Debbie Shy in Coffeyville. Roger was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville, and International Union of Operating Engineers Local #123. He enjoyed going to auctions. Survivors include his wife, Debbie of the home; one daughter, Wendy Newberry, of rural Coffeyville; one step-son, Barry Morgan of Girard; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Newberry, Carrington Newberry, Chance Newberry, and Case Newberry all of rural Coffeyville; several cousins; numerous friends; and his dog Pepper. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 in the First Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Norton officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Friday, May 8, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Roger Smith Memorial Fund; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
