Edith Mae Carter, 86, of South Coffeyville, OK, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 at her home.
She was born December 25, 1926, at Sherando, VA to Robert Austin and Nettie Mae (Patterson) Carter. She grew up and attended school in the Waynesboro, Crossett, and Stuarts Draft, VA area, graduating from Stuarts Draft High School.
Miss Carter was a lab technician at DuPont for 20 years. While working at DuPont she began doing Missionary work for the Church of God. After leaving DuPont she became an Ordained Minister with the Church of God and devoted her life as a Missionary serving in Cuba, Cayman Islands, West Indies, Haiti, Botswana South Africa, Philippines, Alaska and Jamaica. Following her retirement she made her home in South Coffeyville, OK.
When she was young she enjoyed hunting. After retiring she enjoyed reading, and studying for sermons she would write and share with others in the Missionary field.
Survivors include two sisters, Onie Littek of Stuarts Draft, VA, and Jean Crouch of Newark, OH; one brother, Wilbur Carter of Stuarts Draft, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; her longtime friend and fellow missionary, Rhealda Cochrane of the home they shared in South Coffeyville, OK, and caregiver Diana Palone of South Coffeyville, OK.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brother and four sisters.
Following Miss Carter's wishes cremation has taken place and no service will be held at this time.
