Obituary of Robert G. Walker

Coffeyville - Robert Gale "Bob" Walker, 89, of Caney, passed away Wednesday morning April 15, 2009 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was born November 17, 1919 at Wann, Oklahoma to Sigel and Lizzie (Cullison) Walker. Bob grew up and attended school in the Wann area. In December 1942 he joined the U.S. Army Air Corp serving during World War II in Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes, Northern France and Central Europe. Following his discharge in November 1945 he returned to the Wann area and began his career in pipeline construction with Phillips Petroleum Co. On December 27, 1945 he married Bessie Boyd at McPherson, Kansas. Following their marriage they made their home in Kansas and Missouri until moving to Caney in 1959. Bob attended the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Caney, and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Bess of the home; two sons, Robert Michael Walker and his wife, Yvonne of Mulvane, Kansas, and Terry Walker and his wife Judy of Duncan, Oklahoma; one brother, Harold Walker of Wynona, Oklahoma; one sister, Alice Spears of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Jason Walker, Tony Atchison, and Sherri Whyte; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, at the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Caney with Pastor Tim Black officiating. Burial will be in Wann Cemetery in Wann, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today, April 16, 2009 at the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Caney. The family suggests memorials to the Orthodox Presbyterian Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
