Sedan - Jimmy L. Lewis, age 64, of Lawrence, Kansas, formerly of Sedan, passed away Monday morning, April 13, 2009 at his home in Lawrence, Kansas. He was born in Sedan, Kansas on August 23, 1944 to V. Pearl and Marjorie (McNown) Lewis. He grew up and attended school in Sedan graduating from Sedan High School. After high school he received his Associates Degree from Butler County Community College. On December 22, 1965 he married Ida Lou Burdett in Anacortes, Washington. They later divorced. He served in the United States Navy until he was honorable discharged in 1969. He had a career in management and sales and specialized in cement products and lawn and garden with his most recent employment at Earth Works in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars. He loved spending time with his kids, grandkids, fishing, giving to others, and he was an entrepreneur. He is survived by one son, Travis and his wife Barb Lewis of Edgerton, Kansas, one daughter, Tonya and her husband Don Branham of Olathe, Kansas, one brother, Bob Lewis of Wichita, Kansas, four grandchildren, Caroline Branham, Ellie, Will, and Jack Lewis and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Kenneth Lewis. Friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009 and Thursday, April 16, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The casket will be closed. A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Sedan with Dr. J. Dean McNamara officiating. Inurnment and military rights will follow at Riley Cemetery East of Sedan, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the First Baptist Church of Sedan or the American Diabetes Association and may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
