Floyd Johnson, Sr., 47, of Coffeyville, died Sunday morning, April 12, 2009 in Coffeyville.
Floyd was born October 11, 1961 at Luxora, Arkansas to Louis and Ethel Mae (McDougal) Johnson. His father passed away when Floyd was 7 months old and the family moved to East St. Louis, IL. He grew up and attended school in East St. Louis where he attended Lincoln High School. While living in East St. Louis he worked several different jobs to help his family.
In 1978 he moved to Coffeyville and began working for Leavenworth Steel, Acme Foundry and the Barlett Flour Mill where he was employed for 15 years. He worked at American Insulated Wire for six years until he was injured and had to retire in 1998.
On February 18, 1983, Floyd was united in marriage to Brishawn Thomas at Miami, Oklahoma. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where they raised their family.
Floyd was a family man, his boys and girls where his life. He was always at basketball and football games with his children. Floyd and Brishawn also raised many of their nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the Union Baptist Church, and enjoyed fishing and hunting, but most of all loved to BBQ.
Survivors include his wife, Brishawn Johnson of the home, two sons, Floyd Johnson, II, and Alex Johnson both of Coffeyville; two daughters, LaToya Johnson and Aaliyah Johnson both of the home; his mother, Ethel M. Johnson of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; five brothers, Willie Johnson, and Clifton Johnson both of Coffeyville; Eddie Lee Johnson, and Harry Johnson both of East St. Louis, IL, and Amos Johnson of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and three sisters, Mary B. Wilburn, and Lula Carpenter both of Chicago, IL; and Dorothy Johnson of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his father, his twin sons, eight brothers and three sisters.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009 at St. John's Baptist Church in Coffeyville. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to an Education fund for his children; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
