Sedan - Thelma Irene Kerr, age 81, of Peru, Kansas passed away Wednesday evening, April 8, 2009 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan, Kansas. She was born in Peru, Kansas on November 20, 1927 to Otto and Vercy (O'Kelly) Ashford. She grew up and attended school until the ninth grade in Peru High School. She married Fred J. Kerr on May 18, 1951 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. They lived in the Peru area all of their life. He preceded her in death on December 20, 2000. She enjoyed reading the Bible, crocheting and knitting. She is survived by three sons, Freddie J. Kerr of Peru, Kansas, Michael D. Kerr of Havana, Kansas and Jimmy L. Kerr and wife Alice of Larned, Kansas; two brothers, Clifford Ashford of Independence, Kansas and Frank Ashford of Peru, Kansas; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred Kerr, one son, Otto Ray Kerr, two brothers, Alfred and Richard Ashford and one sister Mary Ashford. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 10, 2009 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at God's Lighthouse of Prayer in Peru. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 11, 2009 at God's Lighthouse of Prayer in Peru, Kansas with Pastor Vernon Howerton officiating. Interment will follow at the Peru Cemetery in Peru, Kansas. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Peru Cemetery and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas Street, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
